As an expert on government policy frameworks, he has advised decision-makers and top officials on policies, schemes, and initiatives.
He personally drives the Government & Public Sector team that advises businesses as well as Central and State governments on policy-related issues, particularly around investment promotion, infrastructure, ease of doing business, skill development and technology transformation.
The firm is actively engaged with various state governments, ministries, public sector undertakings, national and international foundations, funds, and similar organizations.
Having played different functional roles since his early professional years, Suraj is well-versed with the fundamentals of all practice verticals within the firm. He specializes in international taxation, M&A and transaction advisory. He has served several multi-national and domestic clients on matters relating to entry strategy, acquisitions, business consolidations, re-alignment and exit structures.
In the field of corporate M&A, he has worked on buy-side/sell-side advisory, corporate fund raising (debt and equity syndication) and transaction structuring involving tax, regulatory (FEMA and FDI regulations), corporate law, SEBI and transaction financing issues. He has also dealt with various domestic and international tax matters for mitigating tax exposures and ensuring compliance.
An Executive MBA from the Wharton School, a qualified Chartered Accountant, a law graduate and an alumnus of the prestigious Doon School, Suraj possesses a wealth of expertise.
As someone who constantly strives to develop himself, Suraj has also authored a book titled ‘Doing Business in India – Simplified’ which has proven to act as a valuable reference for businessmen, entrepreneurs, professionals, and executives seeking essential information about relevant legislation for establishing and expanding businesses in India.
Suraj's unwavering determination to persevere until the very end is deeply rooted in his passion for sports. He is a true sports enthusiast- a national-level swimmer, participated in India’s longest race (19 km), played state cricket and represented U-19 for Delhi, and represented State U-15 & U-17 in Squash.
He is an avid mountaineer and despite his demanding schedule, he continues to pursue mountaineering, as it challenges him to step out of his comfort zone. He has climbed four out of the seven summits – Mt. Kilimanjaro (Africa), Mt. Elbrus (Europe), Mt. Aconcagua (South America), Mt. Kosciuszko (Australia) and Mt. Cook (New Zealand).
